This is the comfortable version of a Hong Kong day. Its price stops looking expensive the moment you divide it. Four travellers share one fare, so a family pays under a hundred dollars each. For that you get four and a half hours of private car, a private driver and twelve stops. Nothing else here works that way.
The route is a loop rather than a dash. It starts among the bars and galleries of Soho and takes in Man Mo Temple. Lan Kwai Fong and Government House go past the window. Then thirty-five minutes on the Peak, and south to Stanley Market and Aberdeen. After that it crosses to Kowloon for Nan Lian Garden, Wong Tai Sin, the Bird Garden and Goldfish Street. You cover both sides of the water in an afternoon, and on public transport that would take most of a day.

The route, stop by stop
- Soho and Man Mo Temple. Bars, galleries and the steep lanes above Central.
- Lan Kwai Fong and Government House, passing by. Passed on the way through, with the story attached.
- Victoria Peak, 35 minutes. Thirty-five minutes on the ridge, and the view down.
- Stanley Market, 45 minutes. Forty-five minutes at the market on the south coast.
- Aberdeen, 30 minutes. The old fishing harbour and its moored sampans.
- Nan Lian Garden, 30 minutes. A classical garden and a golden pavilion at Diamond Hill.
- Wong Tai Sin and the Bird Garden. A working temple, then a street of songbirds.
- Goldfish Street, 20 minutes. Aquarium fish in hanging bags, twenty minutes of it.
Stops can be swapped. The car is yours for the duration, so tell the driver what you actually want and the loop is rebuilt around it.
Who this suits, and who should book something else
Book this if
There are three or four of you. Or you have small children. Or the thought of walking Hong Kong in August was the reason you were going to stay at the airport. A Hong Kong layover city tour in a private car is the version that works for a family, and the infant seats are there if you ask at booking.
Book something else if
You are on your own, so the fare does not divide and the four-hour private tour is better value. Note too that the airport transfer is a stated US$45 extra here rather than part of the fare. On a tight connection, a terminal-to-terminal tour is the safer shape.

No exclusions are named, but two things are worth knowing before you pay. The airport transfer is a separate US$45. Meals and entry to anything ticketed are outside the fare, though everything on the route itself is free to walk into.
Where the car collects you
From a pickup point you choose in Hong Kong — a hotel, an address, or the cruise pier. The airport is available too, for a stated US$45 covering the run in both directions and the driver's time, and you select it when you book rather than arranging it on the day.
Confirmation can take up to 48 hours and is subject to availability, so this is not the tour to book from the departure lounge. Give as much notice as you can.
Know before you go
- The fare covers up to four travellers. A fifth person needs a second booking, so count heads before you pay.
- Airport transfer is US$45 extra. Select it at booking if you are coming straight off a flight.
- Confirmation takes up to 48 hours. Book early rather than on the morning of your connection.
- Infant seats are available on request. Ask when you book; they are not fitted by default.
- Not wheelchair accessible. Strollers are fine and the car is air-conditioned throughout.
- Bring Hong Kong dollars. Stanley Market and Goldfish Street are cash places, and neither takes US dollars.
The photography, and what you get
10 digital photographs are taken during the tour and handed over afterwards, along with a 180-degree panorama, an animated image and a digital album. It sounds like padding until you are standing on the Peak with four people and nobody to hold the camera.
On a stopover nobody has time to arrange anything. That makes the photography quietly the most useful line in the whole fare.
